Tritons' Offense Explodes in Two Victories at No. 5 Humboldt State

ARCATA, Calif. — The University of California San Diego softball team scored a total of 20 runs on Friday to sweep two road games against No. 5-ranked Humboldt State.

Freshman pitcher Robyn Wampler earned two victories in the pitcher’s circle to improve her record to 8-1. Meanwhile, freshman Bobbi Aguirre had a total of six RBI on the day and senior Kelsi Maday finished 6-for-7 at the plate with two runs scored and three stolen bases.

UC San Diego (9-2, 4-2 CCAA) has now won 11-straight games away from Triton Softball Field dating back to last season.

Game 1
Aguirre went 4-for-4 with five RBI, while Maday finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored to lift the Tritons to a series-opening victory over Humboldt State, 9-0, in six innings on Friday afternoon.

Wampler pitched all six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out three.

Sophomore Mikaila Reyes finished 2-for-3, including a two-run home run in the second inning to put UC San Diego on the scoreboard and ahead for good.

Aguirre added to the lead with a solo homer to left in the fourth to make it 3-0, and the freshman’s two-RBI single in the sixth extended the Tritons’ lead to 9-0.

Game 2
Senior second baseman Kendall Baker went 3-for-3 with three RBI and four runs scored, while freshman third baseman Isabel Lavrov finished 3-for-4 with three RBI as the Tritons defeated Humboldt State, 11-7, to complete the two-game sweep.

Maday added three hits with an RBI and run scored, while Wampler gained her eighth win of the season by allowing one earned run on one hit in two innings of relief.

The Tritons scored two runs in the first inning and Lavrov’s two-RBI double to center in the second put UC San Diego ahead, 4-1.

Humboldt State (5-6, 2-4) rallied late with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-6 lead, but UC San Diego responded with five runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by Baker’s three-RBI double, to win comfortably.

The two teams reconvene with another doubleheader on Saturday, as Game 1 is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
