LA JOLLA, Calif. — University of California San Diego women’s basketball redshirt sophomore forward Mikayla Williams has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 8 First Team, the association announced on Thursday.
The award recognizes student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
A native of Meath Park, SK, Canada, Williams majors in public health at UC San Diego’s Roosevelt College and has a grade-point-average of 3.98.
She is one of only six players to earn All-District 8 honors, and will now be placed on the CoSIDA Academic All-American ballot. The 2018 Academic All-American honorees will be announced on March 13.
Williams was also a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Academic selection as a redshirt freshman in 2016-17.
On the court this season, Williams is averaging 14.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game for the Tritons, who have clinched the 2017-18 CCAA regular-season championship and No. 1 seed in the upcoming CCAA Tournament beginning Feb. 27. She was also named CCAA Player of the Week on Feb. 13.
Williams has recorded 11 double-doubles this season and has scored at least 12 points in 14-consecutive games. She currently ranks eighth in the conference in points, sixth in rebounding, second in field-goal percentage (52.8), ninth in free-throw percentage (75.7) and ninth in blocks per game (1.0).
UC San Diego (23-3, 19-1 CCAA) finishes off the regular season at home this week, as the Tritons take on Cal State Dominguez Hills tonight on Feb. 22, before playing host to Cal State LA for Senior Night on Feb. 24.
