LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 24th-ranked University of California San Diego softball team got two home runs from freshman Bobbi Aguirre on Friday to sweep two home games against conference rival Cal State San Marcos.

Aguirre finished 4-for-5 at the plate with a pair of home runs, five RBI, four runs scored and a walk. Junior Maddy Lewis turned in an impressive performance at the plate as well, driving in five runs behind three hits. Solid outings from freshman Robyn Wampler and sophomore Alanna Phillips saw their records improve to 9-2 and 2-1, respectively.

UC San Diego (11-4, 6-4 CCAA) has now won 15 of its 16 all-time meetings against the Cougars.

Game 1
Aguirre was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with a solo home run, and Lewis drove in two RBI to lift the Tritons to a series-opening victory over Cal State San Marcos, 5-1, on Friday afternoon.

Wampler threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out a career-high 11 batters. The 11 strikeouts were the most by a Triton since Camille Gaito fanned 12 against Saginaw Valley State in May of 2011.

Cal State San Marcos got ahead early in the first inning, but Aguirre's home run and Lewis' RBI single in the bottom of the second gave the Tritons a 2-1 lead. A double from Lewis and sacrifice fly by freshman Isabel Lavrov keyed a three-run sixth inning for UC San Diego that extended its lead to 5-1.

Game 2
Four RBI from Aguirre and three RBI from Lewis led the charge for the Tritons as they defeated the Cougars, 10-2, in five innings to complete the sweep. UC San Diego scored in every inning, including a sacrifice fly from sophomore Mikaila Reyes (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS) in the first inning to give the Tritons the 3-0 lead.

After senior Kelsi Maday was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning, Aguirre hit her team-leading third home run of the season, pushing the lead to 8-2.

Aguirre would end the game an inning later with an RBI sacrifice fly to right field, putting the score at 10-2.

Phillips pitched all five innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts.

The two teams continue the series with another doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 24, with Game 1 set to begin at 12 p.m. at Triton Softball Field.
