CCAA TOURNAMENT SNAPSHOT
No. 25 UC San Diego is the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CCAA Tournament and plays host to No. 8 seed Sonoma State in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Feb. 27, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The top-four teams in the conference standings each host first-round games on Feb. 27, with the semifinals and championship game to be hosted by Cal Poly Pomona March 2-3. UC San Diego has won the CCAA Tournament once in program history (2013), and is facing Sonoma State in the quarterfinals for the second-straight year. The Tritons fell to Cal State East Bay in the CCAA Championship last season, 62-53.

Seniors (65+), children/youth (7-17) and visiting student tickets are $5. UC San Diego will provide free tickets to the first 300 students who attend Tuesday night's game.

BIG (WEST) NEWS FOR UC SAN DIEGO ATHLETICS
On Nov. 27, UC San Diego was officially invited to become a member of the NCAA Division I Big West Conference. The Tritons will begin a four-year reclassification period starting in the fall of 2020. They will play a full Big West schedule that season and will be eligible for NCAA Championships in men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo, and fencing. For the 2024-25 academic year, all sports will be eligible to compete in Big West and NCAA Division I championships. Read the full press release here.

CCAA CHAMPS!
UC San Diego enters Tuesday's CCAA quarterfinal winners of 21 of its last 22 games, and is the tournament's No. 1 seed after winning the regular-season conference championship. UC San Diego is receiving votes in the latest WBCA national poll for the fifth-straight week, and landed at No. 5 in last week's NCAA West Regional ranking. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Tritons won two CCAA home games last week to finish off the regular season on a high note. UC San Diego defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 90-63, on Feb. 22, before topping Cal State LA, 75-71, on Senior Night Feb. 24.

Sophomore forward Mikayla Williams scored a game-high 21 points with nine rebounds, while senior forward Dalayna Sampton finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds as the Tritons dismantled Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday.

On Saturday, Mikayla Williams scored a career-high 26 points on an incredible 10-of-11 shooting from the field, as the Tritons outscored Cal State LA 19-8 in the third quarter to conclude the regular season by winning for the 21st time in their last 22 games.

The Tritons rank third in the nation in rebounding margin, dominating opponents on the glass this season 1170-871 (10.7 per game) ... UC San Diego has outrebounded its opponent in 22-consecutive games heading into the CCAA Tournament and 25 times total this season ... The Tritons rank 29th nationally in defensive rebounds per contest (29) and 42nd in total rebounds (1170) ... Senior guard Taylor Tanita finished the regular season seventh nationally in both total assists (171) and assists per game (6.1) ... As a team, UC San Diego is tied for 22nd in the country in total assists (461), 25th in assists per game (16.5) and 23rd in assist to turnover ratio (1.18).

MIKAYLA WILLIAMS NAMED CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK ON FEB. 13 
Sophomore forward Mikayla Williams was named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week for the first time in her career on Feb. 13. The sophomore recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds in a thrilling victory over Cal Poly Pomona on Feb. 9, and followed it up with a dynamic 15-point, 12-rebound performance in a win over CSU San Bernardino on Feb. 10. Williams joins senior forward Dalayna Sampton as the only Tritons to earn the honor this season, with Sampton bringing home the award three times (Nov. 28, Dec. 19, Jan. 30).

2016-17 HIGHLIGHTS
UC San Diego highlighted its 2016-17 season by capturing a second successive CCAA regular-season crown. The Tritons finished runner-up in the CCAA Tournament after falling to Cal State East Bay, 62-53. UCSD earned a berth in the NCAA West Regional as the fourth seed, where it suffered a 69-65 loss to Simon Fraser in the quarterfinal. Head coach Heidi VanDerveer was named the CCAA Coach of the Year while junior transfer Dalayna Sampton earned CCAA Newcomer of the Year honors. UC San Diego had three players named All-CCAA in Cassie MacLeod, Beth Mounier and Sampton. Joleen Yang earned honorable mention.

HEAD COACH HEIDI VANDERVEER
Heidi VanDerveer is in her sixth campaign as the head coach of the UC San Diego women's basketball team with a 116-46 overall record. VanDerveer was named 2016-17 CCAA Coach of the Year for the second-straight season, as she and her staff led the Tritons to a 23-7 overall record (17-3 CCAA) and a second-consecutive CCAA regular-season title. The Tritons qualified the NCAA Division II postseason for the 10th time since 2000-01, competing in the quarterfinals against Simon Fraser. Prior to coming to La Jolla, VanDerveer spent four seasons at Division III Occidental, where she compiled an impressive 83-26 record and led the Tigers to four straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) titles. VanDerveer has also spent time as the head coach at Eastern Washington and San Francisco after beginning her coaching career under Pat Summitt at Tennessee, and spent 12 years working in the WNBA.
