Track and Field Wraps Up Competition at Point Loma and UC Irvine
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -The University of California San Diego track and field squads finished competition at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet at Point Loma on Saturday. The teams also competed at the UC Irvine Spring Break Collegiate Classic in Irvine on Friday and Saturday.
At Point Loma, three Tritons earned NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
Junior Natalie Caraway used a 39'1.75" mark in the triple jump for first place, a provisional qualifying mark, and the school's seventh-best mark all-time. Senior Meghan Fletcher scored a provisional qualifying time in the 400 hurdles as well (1:00.59), good for the school's fourth-best mark all-time. Junior Nicholas Rack finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a provisional 14.53 time.
Senior Paul Doan finished third in the 100 with a 10.63 time.
With final exams beginning Saturday, UC San Diego sent limited contingents to both meets.
In Irvine, senior Skylar Thiel highlighted the meet for the Tritons with a time of 17:40.02 in the 5000 on Friday night, marking the school's 10th-best all-time mark.
"Today was a great day, with the bonus of good weather," said women's head coach Darcy Ahner. "Meghan Fletcher and Natalie Caraway had great performances that will lead the team into the second half of the season with good momentum. We look forward to being back with a full squad at Aztec next weekend."
The UC San Diego track and field teams return to action for the 40th Annual Aztec Invitational at San Diego State on Friday, March 23, and Saturday, March 24.
