UC San Diego Has Seven Named WWPA All-Academic

DAVIS, Calif. — The University of California San Diego men’s water polo team had seven players land on the 2017 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Academic Team, the conference recently announced.
Sophomore Noah Carniglia, sophomore Calder Hilde-Jones, junior Carson Ivancovich, senior Arman Momdzhyan, junior Collin Sullivan, junior Alessandro Valania and junior Luka Vasiljevic each earned the accolade.
The trio of Carniglia, Ivancovich and Sullivan Jr. received all-academic honors for the second-straight season, as total of 55 student-athletes from eight member institutions made the list.
To be eligible, a player must have competed in at least 50 percent of the team’s games during the current season, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, be classified as a full-time student and have completed a minimum of one semester or two quarters at his institution.
UC San Diego finished the 2017 season with an 11-14 overall record and 6-1 mark in WWPA play en route to an appearance in the WWPA Tournament championship game.
Momdzhyan was named All-WWPA First-Team and repeated as the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Player of the Year, while head coach Denny Harper earned WWPA Coach of the Year accolades.
