SAN RAMON, Calif. —University of California San Diego redshirt junior Matt Bowen was named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Bowen put his name in the UC San Diego record books over the weekend with the program’s second-best all-time mark in the triple jump, recording a leap of 51-feet, 2.75-inches at the Bryon Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific.
A native of Fresno, Calif., Bowen’s mark was an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championships, placing fifth overall out of 60 participants.
A former All-American and All-West Region finisher in the triple jump, Bowen has been crowned CCAA champion in the triple jump as both a freshman in 2015 and a sophomore in 2016.
UC San Diego resumes action this weekend, as the Tritons will compete in the Steve Scott Invitational hosted by UC Irvine on April 27-28.
