No. 12 Tritons Fall Short in Overtime in NCAA Opening Round Against No. 17 Wagner, 10-7
LOS ANGELES - The No. 12 University of California San Diego women's water polo team fell short in its National Collegiate Water Polo Championship Opening Round contest to No. 17 Wagner, 10-7, in overtime on Tuesday night at USC's Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
Freshman Grace Pevehouse had team highs with three goals and six steals for UC San Diego (24-12), but the Tritons were outscored 3-0 in overtime. Junior Chanel Schilling notched two goals while junior Shelby Stender recorded two assists.
UC San Diego led 5-3 after freshman Taylor Onstott's (Carlsbad/Carlsbad HS) goal with 3:11 left in the third quarter, but Wagner scored three straight goals to take a 6-5 advantage early in the fourth.
A goal by Pevehouse knotted the score, 6-6, and Schilling's second goal with 2:52 left in regulation made it 7-7 heading into overtime.
