TRITON NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS NOTES
Six University of California San Diego Tritons have earned an appearance in the 2018 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, including redshirt junior Matt Bowen (long jump/triple jump), senior Paul Doan (100, 200), senior Meghan Fletcher (400 hurdles), redshirt junior Tais Marinho-Gomez (triple jump), junior Arik Nesbit (triple jump) and junior Nicholas Rack (100 hurdles).
Bowen is the only Triton making a return trip to the NCAA Championships, as this will be his third time competing. The Fresno, Calif., native earned All-America honors after placing sixth in the triple jump as a true freshman in 2015 and followed it up with a 10th-place effort in 2016. Bowen is second on UC San Diego's all-time list in the triple jump, with a personal-best leap of 51-feet, 4.25-inches. Each of the other Tritons will make their debut in the national meet, including Nesbit, who is right behind Bowen at third place all-time in the triple jump with a best mark of 50'0.0".
The long jump starts on Thursday, May 24, beginning at 11:30 a.m. PT, while the triple jump is scheduled for Saturday, May 26 at 9:45 a.m. PT.
Doan enters the week as UC San Diego's record holder in both the 100 (10.39-seconds) and 200-meter (21.10), and is the first Triton men's sprinter to qualify for the NCAA Championships since becoming a member of Division II. Meanwhile, Rack is the program's record holder in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.00.
The 100 takes place on Thursday at 3:10 p.m., the 200 set for Friday at 2:35 p.m., and the 100 hurdles scheduled for Friday at 3:40 p.m.
Fletcher has the sixth-best mark all-time in the 400 hurdles at UC San Diego, and also Placed second in the 400 hurdles (1:01.20) and third in the 400 (56.29) at the 2018 CCAA Championships. In addition, Fletcher was part of the Tritons' second-place 4x100 (47.09) and third-place 4x400 (3:53.19) relay teams.
Marinho-Gomez has exceeded expectations this season, bouncing back from injury to win the triple jump at the CCAA Championships with the program's second-best all-time mark at 40'1.5".
The women's 400 hurdles begins on Thursday at 4:55 p.m., with the women's triple jump set to start on Friday at 1:45 p.m.

TRITONS LAND 13 All-WEST REGION HONORS
The University of California San Diego men's and women's track and field teams had a total of 13 student-athletes earn U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-West Region honors, the association recently announced.
The Triton men had nine athletes earn accolades, as senior Paul Doan was recognized in three separate events (100, 200, 4x100-meter relay), while redshirt junior Matt Bowen received the honor in two events (long jump, triple jump).
Other men's All-West Region honorees include senior Luis Carson (high jump), senior Justin Hunter (4x100 relay), junior Arik Nesbit (triple jump), junior Nicholas Rack (110 hurdles), freshman Riley Sasaki (4x100 relay), freshman Evan Shimasaki (pole vault) and sophomore Adam Winding (4x100 relay).
On the women's side, junior Natalie Caraway (triple jump), sophomore Chelsea Challacombe (high jump), redshirt junior Tais Marinho-Gomez (triple jump) and junior Esther Nofodji (discus) were each named All-West Region.
BOWEN, DOAN EARN HONORS AT CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Senior Paul Doan was named Track Athlete of the Meet and also earned the High Point Award, while redshirt junior Matt Bowen garnered Field Athlete of the Meet honors. The duo helped the UC San Diego men’s team claim a second-place finish with 163 points behind only Chico State (252.50), the winner for the 14th time in the last 15 years.
Doan placed first to win the conference title in both the 100 and 200-meter finals on Saturday, breaking his own school record in the 100 with a time of 10.39-seconds and matched his own school record set earlier this season in the 200 at 21.10.
Bowen won both the long jump (24-feet, 9-inches) on Friday and the triple jump (51’4.25”) on Saturday, with a personal record in the latter event that remains No. 2 all-time at UC San Diego. It’s the third time in his career he’s won the triple jump in three CCAA meets, and the second time he’s brought the long jump title back to La Jolla.
The women’s team finished fourth with 113.50 points, as San Francisco State took home the team crown with 214 points.
UC SAN DIEGO SCHOOL RECORDS FALL
Several school records have been broken this season for UC San Diego, as senior Paul Doan set a new all-time mark for the program in both the 100 and 200-meter. Doan's time of 10.39 in the 100 and 21.10 in the 200 are both new Triton records, while the San Diego native also anchored the record-breaking 4x100 relay team with a time of 40.73 along with freshman Riley Sasaki, senior Justin Hunter and sophomore Adam Winding. In addition, junior Nicholas Rack set a new school record in the 110 hurles with a time of 14.00.
