Tritons Earn ITA All-Academic Team Honors, Five receive Scholar-Athlete Accolades

TEMPE, Ariz. — The University of California San Diego men's tennis team earned the 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award, while five Tritons received ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades.
Redshirt freshman Eskil Jarlskog, sophomore Sreeganesh Manoharan (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS), freshman Neil Tengbumroong, senior Eric Tseng and senior Justin Zhang each garnered scholar-athlete honors.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
This season, a total of 735 teams and 4,328 student-athletes across all five divisions of college tennis were recognized.
Jarlskog, a math-computer science major at Roosevelt College, had a 3.967 GPA for the 2017-18 academic year. Manoharan, who majors in human biology at Roosevelt College, had a 3.57 GPA, while Tengbumroong had a 3.583 GPA majoring in psychology at Marshall College.
Tseng, UC San Diego's No. 1 singles player, completed the academic year with a 4.0 GPA majoring in cognitive science at Roosevelt College. The senior also earned CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Third Team honors.
Zhang, the Tritons' No. 2 singles player, finished the year with a 3.967 GPA majoring in human biology at Muir College. In addition, the Irvine, Calif., native was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Second Team and received the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar of the Year award by Diverse Magazine.
UC San Diego finished the season with a 9-9 overall record and made an appearance in the NCAA West Regional. The Tritons won eight-straight dual matches between Feb. 18 and March 14, and were ranked as high as No. 15 in the nation.
