LA JOLLA, Calif. — The University of California San Diego men's water polo team earned two solid victories over conference foes Sunday on the final day of the 2018 Triton Invitational at Canyonview Aquatic Center.
No. 12-ranked UC San Diego (3-1) began the day by knocking off No. T-20 Air Force, 16-8, before wrapping up the weekend with a victory over No. 16 California Baptist, 18-12. The Tritons concluded the invite winning three of four contests, with the only loss being Saturday's overtime thriller against No. 9 UC Irvine.
Sophomore Connor Turnbow-Lindenstadt recorded a total of eight goals, five assists and two steals on the day. The Newport Beach native had five goals and one assist against Air Force, before putting up a three-goal, four-assist performance in the win over California Baptist.
Redshirt junior Kacper Langiewicz had a hat trick with three goals in the victory against California Baptist (2-2), while junior Skyler Munatones finished with a team-high five goals and two assists. The Tritons outscored the Lancers 8-1 in the third period to break a 7-7 tie at halftime.
Senior Alessandro Valania finished with a goal, an assist and two steals and junior Noah Carniglia had a hat trick of his own in the win over Air Force (2-2). UC San Diego went on a 6-0 run during the first half to build an early lead, before a 5-0 run in the second half made it 15-5 with six minutes left to play.
The Tritons resume action on Saturday, Sept. 8, when they take a short bus ride to Irvine for the GCC-WWPA Clash against two top-10 opponents. UC San Diego has a rematch with UC Irvine at 10 a.m., before taking on No. 8 Pepperdine at 4:50 p.m.
