LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of California San Diego will be remembering former women’s rower Jennifer Dutton with a celebration of life at 7 p.m. on Oct. 10 in Revelle Plaza. Dutton, who graduated in 2017, passed away following a short illness. Those unable to attend the candlelight vigil can view the celebration through the Revelle Plaza webcam.
Dutton joined the women’s rowing team as a freshman in 2013. She competed on the team during all four of her years at UC San Diego, and served as a two-year team captain while also participating in other extracurricular activities. As a junior, Dutton earned the team’s Most Dedicated Award.
“This has been a tough couple of days for the Triton Family,” Women’s rowing Head Coach Colin Truex said. “Jen was special in so many ways. She was hard-working, dedicated, selfless to a fault, witty, fun, full of life and humor, and blessed with a big smile that was out there for everyone to see. She gave everything she could to this team and made the tough days easier just by being there for her teammates. She impacted so many people’s lives and will forever be remembered for the way she went about her day and how she genuinely cared about everyone she met. I will miss her tremendously… we all will.”
Photos, videos or memories of Dutton can be shared with her family through the Facebook event page or Google form. To assist with the Dutton family’s hospital and funeral costs, visit their GoFundMe page.
