Making a Splash: No. RV Tritons Stay Perfect With Road Win Over Seattle Pacific, 83-72

SEATTLE, Wash. — Senior guard Joleen Yang scored a career-high 25 points on Saturday evening, as the No. RV University of California San Diego women’s basketball team continued its spectacular start to the season with an 83-72 road victory over Seattle Pacific.

UC San Diego (4-0) is off to its best start since the 2011-12 season, when the Tritons started 26-0 and made it to the NCAA West Region Final. 

Yang connected on 5-of-9 3-point field goal attempts, as UC San Diego outscored Seattle Pacific 28-14 in the fourth quarter.

Junior forward Mikayla Williams finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while fellow junior forward Haleigh Hatfield recorded a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds.

In addition, freshman guard Julia Macabuhay added 10 points, junior forward Stephanie Moore matched a career-high with nine points and freshman guard Brianna Claros had a team-high six assists in 32 minutes played off the bench.

The Tritons shot 81 percent (17-for-21) from the free-throw line and out-rebounded the Falcons 36-31.

Senior guard Riley Evans scored a game-high 27 points for Seattle Pacific (0-4).

UC San Diego led by two at halftime but trailed 58-55 entering the fourth quarter.

A Yang 3-pointer put the Tritons on top by one, 62-61, just two minutes into the final period, and another three from the San Francisco native made it 74-68 with 4:26 remaining. 

Consecutive buckets inside by Williams pushed UC San Diego’s lead to 10, and Hatfield’s 3-pointer extended the advantage to 81-68 with 2:39 left.

Next up, the Tritons open California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Saturday, Nov. 24, when they play host to Chico State beginning at 5:30 p.m.
