SEASIDE, Calif. - Chris Hansen recorded game-highs with 23 points and eight rebounds to lead the 16th-ranked University of California San Diego men's basketball team to a 72-61 victory at conference rival Cal State Monterey Bay Thursday evening.

With its third win in a row, UC San Diego moved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Monterey Bay will continue to look for its first win after falling to 0-7 and 0-3.

"It was great to get a win on the road," said UC San Diego head coach Eric Olen. "We relied on our defense more tonight when shots weren't falling and it's encouraging that we can find different ways to win. We need to keep improving and work on being more consistent and this is a game we can learn from and build on."

Hansen was 9-for-13 with three three-pointers, two blocks, and an assist. It was the fourth time this season and third-straight game that he scored at least 20 points.

Scott Everman finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and two blocks, while Tyrell Roberts totaled seven points, five assists, and three boards. Mikey Howell and Eric Patton each contributed eight points. Patton was 4-for-4 from the field.

The Otters out-rebounded the Tritons 36-32, which included a 12-6 advantage on the offensive glass.

The teams combined for 30 turnovers, with UC San Diego scoring 21 points off of 16 committed by Monterey Bay.

Down 22-19 with just over five minutes remaining in the first half, the Tritons went on a 9-0 run to take a six-point lead and they stayed in front for the rest of the night. The run consisted of a three-pointer by Howell and layups from Everman, Hansen, and Roberts.
