LA JOLLA, Calif. - Chris Hansen and Tyrell Roberts combined for 50 points to lead the 10th-ranked University of California San Diego men's basketball team to a narrow, 80-79 victory over league opponent San Francisco State Thursday evening at RIMAC Arena.

With its fifth-straight win, UC San Diego improved to 8-1 on the season and 5-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Tritons also stayed unbeaten at home, moving to 6-0.

Hansen led all players with 27 points, marking the fifth time this season he totaled at least 20. The 6'7" center was 10-for-19 from the field and 6-for-9 from behind the three-point arc, matching a career-high for threes made. Hansen recorded his fourth double-double by taking down a game-high 11 rebounds while also adding two assists, two steals, and a block.

A redshirt freshman guard, Roberts registered a career-best 23 points on 9-for-18 shooting with five three-pointers. He had a game-high four assists as well.

The Tritons hit 17 three-pointers, 11 of those coming in the first half. They made 61.3 percent (19-31) of their shots in the first and led by 15 points, 51-36, at the intermission.

However, SF State rallied in the second half, opening with a 21-5 run. A layup by Brian Nebo with 12:11 remaining put the Gators up 57-56, their first lead since early in the opening half. They went ahead by nine points, 72-63, after Michael Diaz hit two free throws with just over five minutes left in the game.

It was then time for a UC San Diego rally. The Tritons scored 11 unanswered points, five coming from Roberts, and held a 74-72 lead at the 2:47 mark. With the score tied 74-74, Roberts hit a huge three with 2:12 remaining and the Tritons were able stay ahead until the final buzzer.

SF State fell to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA. Four Gators finished with at least 10 points, led by Jiday Ugbaja's 18.
