LA JOLLA, Calif. — The No. 10-ranked University of California San Diego women's basketball team jumped out to a big first-quarter lead and held on in the second half to defeat Humboldt State, 72-58, on Saturday evening at RIMAC Arena.

The Tritons' 10-straight wins to begin the season is the program's fourth double-digit winning streak in the last three seasons. UC San Diego (10-0, 6-0 CCAA) has won 16-consecutive California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular-season contests and 30 of its last 31 in conference play.

In a rematch of last season's CCAA Tournament championship game, the Tritons led by as many as 22 points in the first half and made key plays down the stretch after Humboldt State (6-4, 4-3) pulled within five late in the third period.

Freshman guard Julia Macabuhay led the way with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists, while senior guard Joleen Yang added 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting and junior forward Mikayla Williams finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.

The Tritons shot an efficient 49 percent from the field while holding the Lumberjacks to just 31 percent shooting. UC San Diego also had a 44-36 rebounding advantage.

Humboldt State cut UC San Diego's lead to five on two separate occasions late in the third quarter before the Tritons put together a 13-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Two Williams' free throws followed by jumpers from junior Sydney Sharp and Macabuhay put the Tritons ahead by 11, and a Williams layup off an assist from Yang to close the period made it 54-41 heading into the fourth quarter.

A jump shot by junior forward Haleigh Hatfield opened the fourth, before Yang's 3-pointer put the Tritons back comfortably ahead, 59-41, with 9:12 left to play.

UC San Diego led 24-7 at the end of the first quarter and was on top by 10, 35-25, at halftime. Junior guard Tyra Turner led Humboldt State with 22 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

The Tritons return to action on Monday, Dec. 31, when they play host to Sonoma State beginning at 2 p.m.
