No. 18 UC San Diego Defeats Stanislaus State, 87-70

TURLOCK, Calif. - Christian Bayne and Tyrell Roberts combined for 48 points to lead the 18th-ranked University of California San Diego men's basketball team to an 87-70 conference win at Stanislaus State Saturday evening.

UC San Diego moved to 14-3 overall and 9-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), while Stan State dropped to 6-8 and 3-7.

Bayne finished his night with a game-high 26 points, 17 of those coming in the second half. The senior guard was 5-for-8 from the field and 4-for-5 from three-point land. He claimed another 12 points by going a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. He also added a game-high seven rebounds in addition to two steals, a block, and an assist.

Roberts had 22 points, going 6-for-12 overall and 4-for-8 from behind the arc. He was also money from the charity stripe, netting all six of his attempts. The redshirt freshman point guard also collected five assists, two boards, a block, and a steal.

Redshirt sophomore guard Mikey Howell (San Marcos/San Marcos HS) produced 17 points, hit four threes, and dished out six assists. Center Chris Hansen had 10 points, bringing the redshirt junior to 991 points for his career.

The Tritons shot 50 percent (24-48) and made 48 percent (15-31) of its three-point tries. They scored 23 points off of 17 Stan State turnovers.

UC San Diego led by as many as 23 points mid-way through the first half and held a 50-35 advantage at halftime. The Warriors came alive in the second stanza and with 6:57 left in regulation, Rolaun Dunham hit a three to put them up for the first time, 66-64. The Tritons responded in a big way, out-scoring their opponent 23-4 the rest of the way.

"Tonight was a game with big runs each way," said UC San Diego head coach Eric Olen. "We got off to a great start but lost control of the game. We did a terrific job of staying composed and responding with some of our best basketball when we needed it down the stretch."

Dunham and Darius Scott each scored 13 points for the Warriors. Ty Davis had 12 points and five assists.

After three straight road games, UC San Diego returns home to host Cal State San Marcos on Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
