SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The No. 2 University of California San Diego women's basketball team has found different ways to win throughout the 2018-19 season.

This time it was defense, as the Tritons clamped down early to earn a road victory over Cal State San Bernardino, 71-49, Saturday afternoon at Coussoulis Arena.

UC San Diego (20-0, 16-0 CCAA) held the Cougars to 33 percent shooting from the field and forced 18 turnovers to win its 30th-consecutive regular-season contest and 23rd-straight on the road.

Junior forward Mikayla Williams scored a team-high 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting, junior guard Sydney Sharp continued her hot shooting with 18 points and junior forward Haleigh Hatfield posted another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Tritons outscored Cal State San Bernardino in the first quarter, 20-9, and led by 17 at halftime. UC San Diego allowed just 10 points in the fourth quarter to pull away late.

But it was the first period where the Tritons made their biggest impact, forcing seven Cougar turnovers and holding Cal State San Bernardino (9-13, 8-10) to just 3-of-11 from the field.

UC San Diego returns to action at home this Thursday, Feb. 14, as it plays host to Cal State Dominguez Hills beginning at 5:30 p.m.
