SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - For the second time this season the University of California San Diego men's volleyball team swept UC Santa Cruz, winning a non-conference contest Friday at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Scores were 25-18, 25-20, and 25-23.

UC San Diego, which snapped a three-match losing slide, improved to 6-9, while UC Santa Cruz fell to 8-13.

"It was great to get the road win tonight," said UC San Diego head coach Kevin Ring.

Wyatt Harrison and Collin Shannon provided most of the offensive output for the Tritons. Harrison finished with a match-high 13 kills and tacked on two service aces and four digs. Shannon continued his string of strong matches by recording 11 kills with a .588 hitting percentage, committing just one error in 17 attack attempts. He also had eight digs and three block assists.

Shannon has produced a double-digit kill total in his last four matches and five of his last six, including a career-high 21 at No. 3 UC Irvine last week.

Freshman setter Blake Crisp amassed 34 assists and libero Ryan Lew led all players with 11 digs.

The Tritons out-blocked the Banana Slugs 7-2. Vlad Pesic was a force at the net with five stuffs, including one solo.

UC San Diego put down six service aces on the night, the team's most since it had eight against UCLA back on Jan. 25.

The Tritons owned a .264 (38-15-87) to .132 (32-20-91) advantage in hitting percentage.

"We played a solid match, particularly in sets one and two," said Ring. "UC Santa Cruz fought back and even took a lead late in the third set, but service runs by Shane Benetz and Collin Shannon ended the match. We made the timely plays necessary to win."

Raymond Cascio led UC Santa Cruz with 11 kills.

The Tritons downed the Slugs in three sets on February 2 in La Jolla.

UC San Diego plays at eighth-ranked Stanford Saturday in Maples Pavilion at 7 p.m. The Cardinal are 10-5 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and come into Saturday's contest riding a three-match win streak.

"Our focus now shifts to a strong Stanford squad," said Ring. "We have quite a few players from Northern California, so we are looking forward to playing in front of a strong fan base."
