LA JOLLA, Calif. - Six Tritons scored at least 10 points to help the University of California San Diego men's basketball team roll to a 98-69 win against Cal State San Bernardino in the first round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament Tuesday night in front of a home crowd at RIMAC Arena.

Second-seeded UC San Diego advances to face No. 3 Cal State East Bay in a semifinal on Friday, March 8, at 5:35 p.m. in Hayward. The Tritons and Pioneers met just once during the regular season with UC San Diego cruising to a 79-57 win on March 2 at RIMAC Arena. 

With its fifth-consecutive victory tonight, the Tritons improved to 23-7.

Center Chris Hansen led all players with 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting. Forward Scott Everman followed with 13 points, guards Gabe Hadley and Connor Peterson and forward Eric Patton each totaled 11 points, and guard Christian Bayne finished with 10. Everman and Hadley netted three 3-pointers apiece, while Peterson dished out a career-high six assists and Bayne grabbed five steals to match a career-best. Guard Tyrell Roberts grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to go along with five assists.

The Coyotes scored the game's first seven points and led by 10 with just under 14 minutes remaining in the first half. However, a three by Hadley kicked off a 24-3 run that had the Tritons ahead by nine, 31-22, with 5:46 left in the half. UC San Diego drilled five treys during the explosion, two coming from Everman. In fact, Everman contributed 10 points over the stretch.

At the intermission, the Tritons led by 11 points, 40-29.

A big second half saw UC San Diego make 64 percent of its shots and out-score San Bernardino 58-40. The Tritons hit nine three-pointers in the stanza. A Peterson layup at 15:17 gave UC San Diego its first 20-point advantage and a bucket by Patton at 7:50 increased the lead to 30. The largest spread of the game was 32, coming with 4:22 left in the game.

For the Coyotes, Tyrell Henderson had 15 points and Garrett Baggett added 14.

UC San Diego scored 29 points off of 16 turnovers by its opponent.

The Tritons have now totaled 90 or more points in seven games this season.

It was the third meeting of the year between UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino with the Tritons winning two of them on their home court.

Friday's semifinals will be played at Cal State East Bay's Pioneer Gymnasium. The late game, which starts at 8:05 p.m., features top-seeded and 20th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona against fifth-seeded Cal State LA.

The CCAA Tournament championship game takes place on Saturday, March 9, at Pioneer Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 7:35 p.m.

Tickets will be available at the venue's box office Friday and Saturday. General admission seating is $10. Students with a valid ID, seniors, members of the military, and youth can purchase tickets for $5.

UC San Diego is playing in its eighth conference tournament and is the two-time defending champion, winning the title in 2017 and 2018.
