Heidi Heintz Recognized Among WBCA's Thirty Under 30

ATLANTA — University of California San Diego women's basketball assistant coach Heidi Heintz has been named one of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) Thirty Under 30, which was announced on Wednesday.

Heintz joins Tritons associate head coach Chelsea Carlisle as members of the UC San Diego coaching staff to earn the accolade. Carlisle made the list in 2017.

The WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches age 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement.

“The WBCA is pleased to recognize up and coming talent in our coaching family,” said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. “The 30 coaches who have been named to receive the Thirty Under 30 Award are deserving of this recognition, and the WBCA congratulates them for distinguishing themselves early in their careers.

“These coaches have demonstrated eagerness, effectiveness, loyalty, love of the game, and a commitment to the student-athlete. We celebrate their effort on the basketball court as teachers and equally applaud the extensive role they play in impacting the lives of their student-athletes.”

A native of Spokane, Wash., Heintz is currently in her fourth season as an assistant coach with the Tritons, helping lead the team to four-consecutive California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular-season championships.

UC San Diego has put together an 105-7 overall record and a 78-6 mark in CCAA play since Heintz joined the coaching staff prior to the 2015-16 season. She has played a key role in the development of All-American forwards Farrah Shokoor and Dalayna Sampton, as well as All-CCAA First-Team selection Mikayla Williams.

Prior to UC San Diego, Heintz severed as the director of operations and video coordinator for her alma mater UC Davis during the 2013-14 season. She's also spent time as the junior varsity coach at Ballard High School in Seattle, Wash., as well as an AAU coach at Hoopaholics Academy.
