Tritons Sweep Lindenwood for Ring's 100th Career Win
LA JOLLA, Calif. - Collin Shannon and Wyatt Harrison combined for 30 kills as the University of California San Diego men's volleyball team swept non-conference opponent Lindenwood Tuesday at RIMAC Arena. Scores went 28-26, 25-23, and 27-25.
UC San Diego snapped a four-match skid to improve to 7-13 on the season. Lindenwood, out of St. Charles, Mo., and the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, lost its fifth-consecutive match and dropped to 7-14.
It was the 100th career victory for head coach Kevin Ring.
Shannon led all players with 16 kills and 18 points. The sophomore opposite hit .400 and also contributed three digs, two blocks, and a service ace. Harrison, a sophomore outside hitter, followed with 14 kills and 15 points while adding seven digs, and ace, and an assist.
Sophomore outside Xander Jimenez and junior libero Ryan Lew each had nine digs, a match-high. Freshman middle blocker Logan Clark (Chula Vista/Otay Ranch Senior HS) hit a solid .462 with seven kills and a lone error in 13 attack attempts. Freshman setter Blake Crisp finished with 38 kills and led the Tritons to a .262 (47-19-107) hitting percentage, the team's highest in its last five matches.
Jeremy Kirch and Nick Stevenson each totaled eight kills for the Lions. Lindenwood out-blocked UC San Diego 6.5-4 with Connor Hipelius accounting for five stuffs.
The match featured 37 tie scores and 13 lead changes over the three sets.
It was just the second-ever meeting between UC San Diego and Lindenwood. The Tritons defeated the Lions, 3-1, in February of 2017.
UC San Diego now breaks until March 29-30 when it returns to Big West Conference action by hosting Hawai'i, the second-ranked team in the country.
