LA MIRADA, Calif. — University of California San Diego junior forward Mikayla Williams has been named Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) West Region Player of the Year, the association announced on Thursday.

The first and second teams were voted upon by the region’s College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Williams led the West Region with 52 total points and 16 first-place votes to receive All-West Region First Team honors in addition to being named the region’s player of the year.

Each of the five D2CCA All-West Region First-Team selections will be listed on the D2CCA Women’s Basketball All-America ballot, with the All-America team to be released on March 25.

A native of Meath Park, Sask., Canada, Williams received California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Year on March 7 and garnered CCAA Tournament MVP honors on March 10.

In addition, Williams earned Google Cloud Academic All-America First-Team accolades on March 12.

The junior forward led the CCAA in scoring with 20.1 points per game, as well as field-goal percentage (.552), while finishing second in free-throw percentage (.828) and fifth in rebounding (10.4).

A three-time CCAA Player of the Week, Williams scored a career-high 36 points in a neutral-site victory over No. RV Hawai’i Pacific on Nov. 10, posted career-highs of 18 rebounds and six blocks in a double-overtime win against Cal State San Marcos on Jan. 19 and eclipsed 1,000 career points in a road victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Jan. 5.

Williams was at her best when it mattered most at the CCAA Tournament this past weekend, lifting the Tritons to the tournament title. The junior scored 21 points — including 12 in the fourth quarter —with eight rebounds in a semifinal victory over Cal State San Marcos, before exploding for 26 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and two blocks in the tournament final against Cal Poly Pomona.

No. 2-ranked UC San Diego (29-0) begins play in the NCAA West Regional at RIMAC Arena against Dominican on Friday, March 15, beginning at 5 p.m.
