SAN DIEGO - For the second time in a week the University of California San Diego men's basketball team defeated conference rival Cal Poly Pomona with a 61-50 decision in an NCAA West Regional quarterfinal Saturday at Point Loma's Golden Gymnasium.

Fourth-seeded UC San Diego (26-7), which won its eighth-straight game, advances to take on sixth-ranked and top-seeded Point Loma in a semifinal on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Guard Tyrell Roberts scored a career-high 24 points on 9-for-19 shooting with four 3-pointers. It was the sixth 20-plus point performance for the redshirt freshman. Senior guard Christian Bayne finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, and five assists while redshirt junior center Chris Hansen recorded his 12th double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 boards. UC San Diego responded with a 14-4 run over the next six minutes to go back up by 10 points, 53-43, with just over two minutes left. Hansen put an exclamation point on the run with a dunk. Cal Poly Pomona got no closer than seven the rest of the way and UC San Diego's Jeremy Johnson put down a double-handed slam to close out the night's scoring.
