No. 17 Tritons Finish WWPA Road Trip With Win at Sonoma State, 20-7

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — Senior Riley Heiduk and sophomore Taylor Onstott scored three goals apiece to lift the No. 17 University of California San Diego women's water polo team to a road victory over Sonoma State, 20-7, Sunday morning at Rudloff Pool.

UC San Diego (16-12, 4-0 WWPA) finished off this weekend's Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) road trip with three-straight wins, and concludes regular-season conference play with an unblemished 4-0 record.

The Tritons have now won six-consecutive games and 42-straight WWPA contests, including postseason play.

Senior Halley Atkinson, sophomores Robyn Carter, Tera Richardson, Grace Pevehouse and freshman Maddie Bockman each finished with two goals, while senior Shelby Stender dished out two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Bennett Bugelli recorded five saves.

UC San Diego jumped out to a 4-1 lead after a Pevehouse five-meter penalty shot with 22 seconds to go in the first quarter, and outscored Sonoma State 5-2 in the second behind two Atkinson goals to take a 9-3 halftime lead. The Tritons added three goals in the third period and tacked on eight in the fourth.

UC San Diego returns to action at home next weekend, as it plays host to UC Irvine on Friday, April 12 and Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, April 13.
