The Tritons senior class went out with a victory in their final home game on Saturday.

No. 14 Tritons Send Seniors Out on Top With Win Over Pomona-Pitzer, 12-4

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The No. 14 University of California San Diego women’s water polo team sent its senior class out on top with a home victory over Pomona-Pitzer, 12-4, on Senior Night Saturday evening at Canyonview Aquatic Center.

UC San Diego (17-13, 4-0 WWPA) has won six of its last seven games, and will close out the regular season with the annual Harper Cup rivalry game against San Diego State next Saturday, April 20, at Aztec Aquaplex.

Sophomore Ciara Franke led the way with three goals and two steals, while senior Shelby Stender scored twice and senior Krista Schneider matched a career high with five assists in their final home games. 

In addition, sophomore Sydney Boland finished with two goals, an assist and a steal, and sophomore goalkeeper Bennett Bugelli tallied seven saves despite only playing the first half.

The Tritons shook off a slow start to take a 2-0 lead after the first quarter behind goals from Franke and Stender, while Boland scored twice in the second quarter to push UC San Diego’s halftime lead to 5-1.

Sophomore Robyn Carter opened the second half with a power-play goal off an assist from Schneider, and a score by sophomore Grace Pevehouse on a pass from Boland put the Tritons ahead 10-3 at the end of the third quarter.
