LA JOLLA, Calif. — The University of California San Diego track and field teams had four student-athletes earn all-conference honors on Day 2 of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships on Friday.

Junior Christian Kallenberg earned first place in the decathlon, while senior Matt Bowen took conference crown in the long jump to highlight a big day for the Tritons. Juniors Chelsea Challacombe (heptathlon) and Erikka Linn (long jump) also received All-CCAA honors behind runner-up finishes.

The UC San Diego men (27 points) and women (29) are both currently in fourth place heading into Day 3. Chico State leads the men’s side with 66 points, and San Francisco State sits atop of the women’s side with 42 points.

Kallenberg recorded a total of 6502 points in the 10-event decathlon, which is an NCAA provisional qualifier and fourth-best mark in program history. His day included a top finish in the javelin behind a pro-qualifying toss of 194-feet, 2-inches (59.18-meters). He also finished second in the discus (116’8”/35.56) and pole vault (13’9.25”/4.20).

A native of Mainz, Germany, Kallenberg will also compete in the javelin final on Saturday.

Bowen added another chapter to his historic Triton career, taking first in the long jump with a pro-qualifying mark of 24’9.75” (7.56). It’s the third time in four seasons Bowen has won the conference title, and he’ll attempt to win his fourth triple jump crown on Saturday.

On the women’s side, Challacombe took second in the heptathlon with 4673 points, which is a provisional qualifier. The Los Alamos, N.M., native placed third at the conference meet last season.

Linn earned a second-place finish in the long jump behind a best leap of 18’3.75” (5.58), which is the Fremont, Calif., native's first All-CCAA honor.

Junior Claudia Cox (1:00.03) and senior Kelly Strand (1:01.28) both posted pro-qualifying times in the 400 hurdle prelims, setting up a thrilling final for Saturday.
