No. 13 Tritons Bow Out of CCAA Tournament With Loss to Gators
SEASIDE, Calif. – The No. 13 University of California San Diego softball team fell to San Francisco State, 3-0, bowing out of the CCAA Tournament on Friday evening. With the outcome, UC San Diego moves to 31-14 on the season, while the Gators improve to 38-17.
San Francisco State got on the scoreboard early, plating two runs in the bottom of the first. Danielle Stedman limited the damage though, laying out to make a crucial grab in center field for the third out of the inning. It was the second outstanding catch of the day for the junior, who robbed a Sonoma State home run in the Tritons’ first game of the CCAA tournament.
The Triton bats were unable to get much going against the Gator pitcher. In the early innings, Sherriah Harrington and Isabel Lavrov each recorded singles, but those were the Tritons’ only hits of the contest.
Alanna Phillips started the contest in the pitcher’s circle. Across one inning pitched, Phillips surrendered three earned runs. Robyn Wampler then entered in the second inning in relief. Wampler shut the Gator bats down, allowing just one hit to the 18 batters she faced over five innings. The sophomore picked up four strikeouts along the way.
With the outcome, UC San Diego exits the double-elimination CCAA Tournament. The Tritons will find out the fate for the future of their season at 7 a.m. on May 6, as the NCAA selection show will be streamed here.
