No. 14 Tritons Fall to No. 15 Augustana at NCAA DII National Championship

UC San Diego

DENVER – The No. 14 University of California San Diego softball team fell to No. 15 Augustana (S.D.), 8-0 (five innings), in their first game at the finals of the NCAA Division II National Championship. UC San Diego moves to 37-15 on the season, while the Vikings improve to 57-10.

The highlight of the game for UC San Diego was its defense, as the defense was perfect. The Tritons did not commit an error on the evening.

Offensively, the Tritons were held hitless until the fourth, when D2CCA All-West Region honoree Keila Bosinger stroked a double into right center field. Despite her hit, the Tritons were unable to bring Bosinger home.

All three Triton hurlers took to the pitcher’s circle during the contest. Starter Robyn Wampler tossed two innings, surrendering five earned runs to a tough Augustana lineup. Dominique Acosta then entered the game, allowing two earned runs. Alanna Phillips finished the work, giving up one earned run over two innings pitched.

UC San Diego remains alive in the double-elimination tournament, but enters the elimination portion of the bracket. The Tritons will face seventh seed West Chester at 5:30 p.m. (PT) tomorrow evening.
