Nicholas Rack Takes Sixth in 110 Hurdles to Conclude NCAA Championships
KINGSVILLE, Texas — The University of California San Diego track and field team finished the 2019 NCAA Championships on a high note Saturday, as senior Nicholas Rack earned All-America First-Team honors with a sixth-place performance in the 110 hurdles at Texas A&M Kingsville's Javelina Stadium.
Rack crossed the finish line in 14.11-seconds in his second-straight appearance in the national finals. The senior finished fourth overall as a junior in 2018 with a time of 14.06.
A native of Murrieta, Calif., Rack was already the school-record holder in the event with a time of 14.00 last season. He entered the 2019 national meet with the 12th-best mark in the nation at 14.08.
Earlier on Saturday, junior Gabby Eshiet placed 18th overall in the shot put behind a best toss of 46-feet, 11.75-inches (14.32-meters). Competing in her first season with the Tritons as a transfer from UC Riverside, the Chino, Calif., native already stands second all-time in the UC San Diego record book with a best mark of 48'3.50" (14.66) earlier this season.
UC San Diego concludes the week with three First-Team All-Americans and two Second-Team All-Americans. Senior Matt Bowen earned first-team honors in the triple jump and second team in the long jump, senior Natalie Caraway took home All-America First-Team honors in the high jump, while junior Claudia Cox became a second-team All-American in the 400 hurdles.
