Tritons Picked to Finish Third in CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of California San Diego men’s soccer team has been picked to finish third in the 2019 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) men’s soccer preseason coaches poll, as voted on by the conference’s 13 head coaches. The poll results were announced on Monday morning.

Poll Details

The Tritons racked up 113 points in the poll and also received one first place vote. The only teams UC San Diego trails are Cal State LA and Cal Poly Pomona, respectively. In 2018, Cal State LA won the CCAA Tournament, while Cal Poly Pomona claimed the conference’s regular season title and later the West Region crown as well. View the full poll results below.

Last Season

The Tritons finished the 2018 regular season with a 13-3-2 overall record and a 7-3-2 mark in CCAA action. With its record, UC San Diego earned the sixth seed of the CCAA Tournament, extending its streak of consecutive tournament appearances to six. As the Tritons hosted the CCAA Tournament in La Jolla, their season ultimately came to an end with a 2-0 loss to Chico State.

Coming Up

Prior to start of the 2019 season, the Tritons will take on crosstown competitor San Diego State in an exhibition. The match will take place at 7 p.m. at SDSU Sports Deck on August 24.

The season will officially open at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 5, as the Tritons play host to Concordia Irvine at Triton Soccer Stadium. Following a six-game nonconference homestand, CCAA action will begin on the road when the Tritons face Cal State East Bay.

After another road contest at Cal State Monterey Bay, UC San Diego will host its CCAA foes for a seven-contest homestand. The regular season concludes with a trio of competitions on the road.
