Triton's Second-Half Surge Leads to Domination over Fresno Pacific

FRESNO, Calif.– The UC San Diego No. 11 men’s water polo team remains undefeated in Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) action after the Tritons dismantled Fresno Pacific 15-5 Friday evening. UC San Diego outscored Fresno Pacific 9-2 in the second half. The Tritons improve to 7-3 and 2-0 in conference play while the Sunbirds fall to 1-8 and 0-1 in conference.

Skyler Munatones and Kaden Likins paced the pack, each scoring a hat trick and an assist. Connor Turnbow-Lindenstadt and Cooper Milton added a pair of goals as well. 

Jack Turner remained strong in the net. The senior finished the day with 12 saves, a .706 save percentage and held Fresno Pacific to two goals in the second half.

Fresno Pacific took a one-point led a little over thirty seconds into the start of the contest. Goals from Turnbow-Lindenstadt and Ty Matson reclaimed the lead for the Tritons. Under a minute to go in the first quarter, Jacob Fairchild scored for the Sun Birds to make it a one-point game again. Calder Hilde-Jones scored on the following possession with ten seconds left to close out the first quarter with a 4-2 lead.

Fairchild opened the second quarter with another goal but the Tritons went on a 6-0 that ended in the top of the fourth quarter. The Sunbirds scored in the first thirty seconds of the fourth quarter. UC San Diego shut Fresno Pacific’s offense down for the remainder of the match as the Triton offense continued to chug along with five goals.

UC San Diego returns home to face Loyola Marymount at Canyonview Pool on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 6:00 p.m.
