No. 2 Tritons Kick Off Homecoming Weekend With Shutout Win Over Chico State

UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 2 University of California San Diego women’s soccer team battled to a 1-0 victory over Chico State on Friday night to kick off Homecoming Weekend. With the win, the Tritons remain unbeaten at 11-0-1 and 6-0-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. The Wildcats fall to 8-4-1 on the season and 4-3-0 in conference play.

The Tritons and Wildcats were locked in a scoreless stalemate until the 43rd minute. The Chico State goalie tried to intercept a cross by Ashlynn Kolarik, but deflected the ball right to Kate Hottinger, who headed it into the back of the Wildcat net. Hottinger’s goal was her first of her collegiate career.

UC San Diego’s defense was strong once again, holding Chico State to just five shots throughout the contest. Triton goalkeeper Angelica Ramos made two saves en route to picking up her 10th clean sheet of the season.

Next, the Tritons will host Stanislaus State at 2 p.m. on Sunday for Senior Day. Prior to the match, UC San Diego will honor Amanda Erickson, Kelsey Kimball, Angelica Ramos, and Natalie Saddic.
