Killing the Game: Rieble's Career High Helps Tritons Down Stanislaus State
LA JOLLA, Calif. - Jessica Rieble hammered down a career high 19 kills to lead the University of California San Diego women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win conference win over Stanislaus State Saturday night at RIMAC Arena. Scores were 25-18, 25-18, 24-26, and 25-12.
The Tritons, who defeated Chico State Friday, finished their Homecoming weekend with perfect 2-0 record. Overall, they are now 13-6 and hold a 7-4 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Rieble finished with 23 points, which matched a career best, by adding six blocks (two solos) to her kill total. The senior hit an impressive .692, the highest by any Triton this season, with just one error in 26 attack attempts. Rieble, who entered the weekend ranked fifth nationally with a .407 hitting percentage, is now hitting .433 after Saturday's performance coupled with her .444 outing Friday against the Wildcats.
Three other Tritons recorded a double digit kill total including Gina Cortesi (12), Emily Hubbard (12), and Trinity Castaneda (11). Hubbard recorded her second double double of the season by amassing 14 digs while also logging four blocks, two assists, and a service ace. Setter Isabela Dobra had a season best 51 assists and a match high 15 digs for her third double double. She also had four blocks.
For the second straight night, UC San Diego hit over .300, swinging at .306 (64-20-144) against the Warriors. The Tritons owned a 12-9 advantage in blocks and sided out at 74 percent, which included 88 percent in the first set and 92 percent in the fourth frame.
Stanislaus State (11-6, 6-4) got 14 kills from Sierra Adams and 13 from Macky Morris. Krista Hernandez totaled 15 digs. The Warriors hit .156 (44-23-135).
UC San Diego takes to the road next week for a pair of CCAA matches, playing at Sonoma State on Thursday, Oct. 24, and at Humboldt State on Saturday, Oct. 26.
