ARCATA, Calif. - A season-high .344 hitting percentage paced the University of California San Diego to a 3-0 sweep at Humboldt State Friday in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women's volleyball action. Scores at Lumberjack Arena were 25-17, 25-18, and 25-21.

With the win, UC San Diego improved to 14-7 overall and 8-5 in the CCAA. HSU fell to 5-13 on the year and 1-10 in conference play.

"Tonight was a big win for us, Humboldt is a tough place to play and they're a lot better than their record shows," said UC San Diego head coach Ricci Luyties. "We did a a good job of limiting our unforced errors and our setting put our hitters in good situations, which made for an effective offense."

The Tritons racked up 44 kills with just 12 errors in 93 attack attempts, which led to their best hitting percentage since going .353 in early October of 2018. They held edges in digs (50-35), service aces (7-6), and blocks (7-4).

Gina Cortesi led UC San Diego with 12 points on nine kills, four block assists, and an ace while hitting .412. Sydney Tekstra hit .538 (8-1-13) and Emily Hubbard tacked on another three aces to her total. Libero Alyson Penrose finished with a match-high 15 digs.

Middle blocker Jessica Rieble hit .583 (8-1-12) and also added four block assists. The senior entered the match ranked third nationally with her .425 hitting percentage and is now hitting .430 following Friday night's performance.

Setter Isabela Dobra was efficient, collecting 38 assists on 74 sets.

Lenox Loving had 10 kills and Odelia Ryan had 12 digs for Humboldt State, which hit .123 (30-17-106) on the night.

The match was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, Oct. 26, but was moved up a day as Humboldt County is expecting power outages Saturday to reduce the risk of wildfires. The HSU campus will be closed Saturday through Monday, Oct. 28.

UC San Diego heads back to La Jolla and will play just one match this coming week as it hosts cross-county rival Cal State San Marcos on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. For ticket info, click here. All home matches are broadcast live by ESPN3.
