Bre Schofield finished 22nd overall individually, while teammate
Jake LeVieux came in 92nd place at the 2008 NCAA Division II National Championships Saturday morning at Cooper's Lake Campground in Slippery Rock, Pa.
Schofield capped off her incredible season with another strong performance on Saturday, finishing the 6k women's race with a time of 22:19, just two seconds behind Slippery Rock University's Jaime Wright. Posting UCSD's highest finish since 2002, the redshirt freshman shaved 22 seconds off of her previous time at Cooper's Lake during the SRU Pre-National Invitational in early October.
The Carlsbad, Calif. native takes home U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-American honors by virtue of her top 25 finish in the race.
LeVieux got off to a good start in the men's 10k and found himself in 42nd place after the first mile. The senior gave it all he had to finish in the top 100 with a final time of 33:06.
“We are extremely proud of how Bre and Jake represented our program today,” head coach
Nate Garcia said. “The conditions were definitely a challenge for both of them, but they didn't let the cold and snow take them out of the race. I cannot say enough about both runners and Bre was well deserving of All-American honors after the terrific freshman season she had.”
The temperature at race time was in the mid-20s and runners had to fight through snow storms most of the day.
Adams State of Colorado walked away with both the men's and women's team championships. Scott Bauhs of Chico State won the individual men's championship with a time of 30:21, while Seattle Pacific's Jessica Pixler broke the tape on the women's side, finishing with a time of 20:59.
