UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. ? The UC San Diego fencing team continued action at the 2008 National Collegiate Fencing Championships on Saturday, with Pilar Alicea and Alicia Trigeiro competing for the women's squad.  Heading into the final day of competition, the Tritons sit in 17th place overall, just trailing Temple and NYU and ahead of Brandeis, Brown, and UNC.

UC San Diego entered Saturday's competition with momentum, after Benjamin Dorn received All-American honors for his performance during days one and two of the National Championships.  Dorn, a sophomore competing in Nationals for the second time, led UCSD with 13 overall victories and recorded 85 touches in men's foil, finishing ninth overall.

Alicea had a strong showing in women's foil, recording eight victories and 50 touches overall.  With her performance, the junior from San Francisco is currently 10th overall.  Olympian Emily Cross currently leads the women's foil field with 15 victories.  Trigeiro, a fellow junior from La Mesa, aided the UCSD cause from the women's saber division with one victory and 32 touches during her first day of action.

Head coach Heidi Runyan's squad completes their four-day stay at Penn State on Sunday with the women's team in action.  The final day of the National Collegiate Fencing Championships is scheduled to begin with women's foil rounds five through seven at 8:30 a.m.
