UCSD Set To Host 2009 Triton Invitational This Weekend

LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The Triton Track and Field Stadium will be alive and kicking this weekend, as UC San Diego will host the 2009 UCSD Triton Invitational on Friday and Saturday on the La Jolla campus. A field of over 80 schools, countries, and elite athletes will compete in several open and invitational sections, making the Triton Invite one of the largest and most prestigious track meets in Southern California.

This weekend's meet will feature over 1,300 entries and nearly 1,000 individual athletes. Among the schools represented will be Division I powers Arizona, Kentucky, Nebraska, Tennessee, and UCLA, as well as several schools from around the state including USC, Loyola Marymount, San Diego State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Long Beach State, and Cal Poly. Australia, France, Great Britain, Guatemala, the Netherlands, and Norway are among the countries with athletes competing. 

The Triton Invitational will kick off with a few select events on Friday at 10:00 a.m. The field events will begin a full day of competition on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., with track events starting at 11:00. The full meet schedule can be found by clicking the link above.

UCSD is coming off a solid showing at the VS Athletics Long Beach Invitational at Cerritos College last weekend, where Triton athletes posted one individual victory and set two school records. This weekend's meet will be the final tune-up for the Tritons before they travel to Chico for the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships April 30-May 2.

Tickets can be purchased at the entrance to Triton Track & Field Stadium on Saturday. Tickets are $5 for adults, children under the age of 12 and UCSD students with valid ID are free. Directions to the stadium can be found by clicking here.
