INDIANAPOLIS ? Sophomore Keith Okasaki, junior Raj Samra, and senior Billy Olsen will represent UC San Diego as individuals in the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships, it was announced Friday. The trio will compete in the Central/West Regional May 4-6 at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Five California Collegiate Athletic Association teams were selected among the 10-team West Region field, including Sonoma State, which captured its second straight CCAA Championship on Tuesday. Cal State San Bernardino, Chico State, Cal State Monterey Bay, and Cal State Stanislaus were also selected, as the CCAA claimed five of the top six spots in the region. Western Washington, Grand Canyon, Hawaii-Hilo, Dixie State, and St. Martin's will also represent the West in Lincoln.

After finishing sixth at the CCAA Championships in Paso Robles, UCSD golfers claimed three of the four individual spots in the regional. Notre Dame de Namur's Ryan Sheffer will also compete as an individual. The top five teams and the top two individuals not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 19-22 at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Washington.

Okasaki has had a very successful sophomore campaign, leading the Tritons with a low stroke average of 74.1. His best performance of the season came at the St. Edwards Invitational in February, when he finished second overall with a 219 total. He led the way for the Tritons at the CCAA Championships earlier this week, finishing in eighth place with a 217.

Samra established himself as one of the premiere golfers on the team early on this season, shooting a 67 at the Western Washington Invitational in September. His score stands as the Tritons' low round for the year. Samra heads to Lincoln with a stroke average 74.7.

Olsen finished the season strong, finishing 24th at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational on April 14, before claiming a share of 19th place at the CCAA Championships. He was UCSD's second-highest finisher in each tournament and currently has a stroke average of 76.4. The Fountain Valley, Calif. native earned a regional bid last season, finishing 25th overall with a final score of 225 at the Adobe Creek Golf Club in Petaluma, Calif.
