Samra Tied For 20th After First Round At NCAA Central/West Regional

LINCOLN, Neb. ? UC San Diego's Raj Samra is tied for 20th place overall after shooting a 3-over par, 74 in Monday's opening round at the 2009 NCAA Division II Central/West Regional Golf Championships at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska. Sophomore Keith Okasaki shot a 7-over, 78 in the first round for a share of 64th place.

Samra is tied with 11 other competitors after the first day at the par-71, 7,016-yard course.

CCAA Newcomer of the Year Brandon Harkins of Chico State is atop the leaderboard after 18 holes at 6-under par, 65. He holds a one-stroke lead over conference rivals Danny Hoff of Cal State Stanislaus and Jarin Todd of Sonoma State, who each fired opening round scores of 5-under, 66.

Sonoma State leads the field after shooting an even-par, 284 on Monday. The Seawolves hold a five stroke lead over Colorado-Colorado Springs and a six shot advantage over CCAA foes Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State.

The 54-hole Regional competition continues on Tuesday and concludes with the final round on Wednesday.
