LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego men's and women's cross country squads continue their seasons this weekend at the UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday at the Central Park Cross Country Course in Huntington Beach, Calif. The Tritons will be one of at least 15 teams to compete in both the men's five mile race and the women's 5k event.

The UCSD men are coming off an impressive performance in its season opener last week, defeating Point Loma Nazarene in a dual meet event at home last Friday. The Tritons finished the four mile race with 20 points after individuals finished first, second, fourth, fifth and eighth; despite holding out seven upper classmen from the race.

Freshman Jesse Morrill turned in a very solid performance, finishing first overall with his time of 22:17.8. Morrill broke the tape nearly 14 seconds ahead of fellow freshman Max Mullender who came in second. Daniel Anderson, Gabe LaMothe and Benjamin Schuster rounded out the top five runners for the Tritons on the day.

The UCSD women enter the weekend fresh off a No. 5 national ranking that was released on Tuesday night by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Like the men, the Triton women finished first last week in their dual meet with PLNU. Head coach Ted Van Arsdale's squad posted 26 points at the meet with individual finishes of third, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth.

Juniors Diane Dunn and Emily McGregor had the top two times for the Tritons last weekend, finishing third and fourth with their times of 15:41.8 and 15:49.3, respectively, on the 2.5 mile course. Ashleigh Montgomery, Nina Miller and Jordana Henderson rounded out the top-five finishers for UCSD.

Following this weekend's UCI Invitational, the Tritons will remain in San Diego to take part in the San Diego State Aztec Invitational on Saturday, September 16 at 8:00 and 8:45 a.m.
