LONG BEACH, Calif. – The UC San Diego men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams completed the first day of competition at the Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference Championships on Wednesday evening.  The events on the first day included a pair of relay events and the women’s three-meter diving competition.  The Triton women’s team dominated the 800 free relay with a time of 7:36.36, good for second in the Triton record book.  Amanda Mason, Jennifer Lappe and Danielle Niculescu placed 12th, 15th and 16, respectively.  On the men’s side, UCSD recorded a pair of second place finishes.  The 200 medley relay team of Devin Ancona, Evan Hsiao, Jesse Marin and Tim Fuller notched a time which ranks 3rd in the nation at 1:32.83.

The women’s 200 medley team was the other women’s event for UCSD, but the Tritons were disqualified after a called early departure.  The 800 free relay team included Andrea Lippin, Susan Bell, Audrey Panis and Shannon Simonds.

In addition to the UCSD second place finish in the 200 medley relay, the 800 free relay also finished second.  The team of Jacob Dong, Artur Kubalski, Greg Goodell and J.P. Oliver finished in 6:50.54, ranking them 4th nationally.  Oliver recorded a split that ranks 5th all-time at UCSD in the 200 free split.

Competition resumes on Thursday with prelims in the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and one-meter diving.
