LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's water polo team picked up several accolades Thursday as the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced the recipients of its annual All-Academic Awards.
Freshmen Laurel Kistler and Courtney Miller were honored at the ACWPC's Superior level for holding a cumulative GPA between 3.41 and 3.70. Kistler, an attacker, is undeclared at UCSD's Muir College while Miller, a goalkeeper, is majoring in cognitive science at Warren College.
Sophomore Jolene Guiliana and freshman Alexis Wieseler were awarded Excellent-level marks for maintaining a GPA between 3.20 and 3.40. Guiliana is an attacker with a psychology major at Muir and Wieseler, a 2-meter defender, studies human biology at Muir.
All four student-athletes were also named to the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Academic Team in early July.
In addition, the Tritons were recognized by the ACWPC for holding a team GPA of at least 3.0.
In 2013, UCSD won its second WWPA title in the last three seasons and advanced to the NCAA Championship in Boston, where it finished an all-time best sixth. The Tritons went 26-15 overall and were ranked as high as 12th nationally.
