LOS ANGELES, Calif. - With three seconds left in the second overtime period, Jessica Wi scored a golden goal to lift the No. 15 UC San Diego women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Cal State L.A. in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play Friday night at Jesse Owens Track.
UCSD improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in CCAA play. The loss dropped CSULA to 2-2-1 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Wi took a free kick from 21 yards out and floated a perfectly-placed shot that found the upper left corner of the net. It was the first goal of the season for the senior midfielder.
Cal State L.A. took a 1-0 lead into halftime when Megan Ollar put one past Triton keeper Kelcie Brodsky at the 19:26 mark.
The Tritons tied it up at 53:13. Alexa Enlow crossed a ball inside to Cassie Callahan, who netted a header to take the game to extra minutes. It was Callahan's team-leading third goal of the year.
Brodsky finished with three saves while counterpart Gabriella Batmani had five.
UCSD returns to CCAA action Sunday at Cal State San Bernardino. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
