SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The ninth-ranked UC San Diego women's soccer team continued its winning ways with a 1-0 victory over San Francisco State at Cox Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Tritons moved to a 7-0 overall record and are now 6-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. The Gators are now 3-4 overall and 1-4 in the league.
The game-winning goal was scored by sophomore Cassie Callahan on a header at the 74:27 mark. She collected the ball off a corner kick feed from Hayley Johnson and put it past SFSU goalie Annicia Jones.
The goal was Callahan's sixth on the season and her third game winner.
The Gators mounted a big offensive push to try and even the score just after the UCSD goal, starting with a corner kick by Nicole Vanni. It continued with two header attempts and two shots that were just wide.
SFSU outshot UCSD 10-9, but the Tritons proved to be more accurate with six bids on net compared to SFSU's two.
Kelcie Brodsky finished the afternoon with two saves for the Tritons.
UCSD returns home to Triton Soccer Field to host a pair of CCAA matches - Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, Sept. 28 (4:30 p.m.) and Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday, Sept. 30 (noon).
