UCSD Completes SoCal Play On High Note

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The No. 11 UC San Diego men's water polo team completed play at UC Santa Barbara's SoCal Tournament Sunday by splitting a pair of matches, defeating 14th-ranked Air Force, 9-3, after losing against No. 10 Loyola Marymount, 13-11.

Josh Stiling led on the offensive front with ten goals, while Brian Donohoe chipped in another five.

Cameron Ravanbach had 24 saves on the day as the starting goalie. Ravanbach finished the afternoon with a single-game career high 18 saves in the four quarters against the Falcons.

Game 1
The Tritons out-scored the Lions 5-4 in the first quarter. LMU made a comeback in the second quarter and extended it to the thrid, taking an 11-8 lead into the final quarter of regulation.

UCSD came close to tying it and bringing the game to extra time, but the Lions kept at least a one goal lead. Loyola Marymount goalie Kyle Testman finished with 14 saves, while Cameron Ravanbach finished with 11 for the Tritons.

Game 2
UC San Diego defeated Air Force for the second time this season as Stiling and Donohoe each put in three goals. Three other Tritons, including John Butler, David Higginson and Matthew Michalko, found the net as well.

The Falcons had a difficult time breaking the goal line, trailing 6-1 at halftime. The Tritons didn't budge in the second half as Ravanbach finished with nine saves.

UCSD is back in action at Canyonview Pool on Friday, Oct. 12, hosting Long Beach State at 6:00 p.m.
