LA JOLLA, Calif. - After a bitter loss to Cal State San Bernardino on Dec. 16, the UC San Diego women's basketball team evened its season series with the Coyotes in the form of a 57-34 victory at RIMAC Arena on Sunday to close out the calendar year.

The Tritons will enter the new year with a 5-6 record overall and a 3-1 record against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents. UCSD will next travel to Cal Poly Pomona (3-5, 1-3 CCAA) for a Thursday contest set to begin at 5:30 p.m.

For the first time this season, senior guard Daisy Feder earned a double-double. The Santa Monica native tallied a game-high 15 points to go along with a career-high 13 rebounds. Feder also had three assists and two steals.

Setting the pace for the Coyotes was junior guard Tayllor Gipson, who contributed eight points with a share of the team-high four rebounds while also getting credited with a steal.

The Tritons never trailed in the game and were superior to the Coyotes on both offense and defense. For the game, the Tritons outscored the Coyotes in the paint, 32-14. On the rebounding front, the Tritons grabbed 44 compared to the Coyotes' 27.

Coming into the second half with a commanding 34-18 lead, UCSD proceeded to only extend its advantage. After Gipson hit a jumper just 58 seconds into the closing half to trim the UCSD lead to a 14 points, 34-20, the Tritons answered with an 8-0 run highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers from junior forward Erin Dautremont and Feder to give UCSD a 42-20 lead with 15:55 to go in the game.

UCSD later went on a 7-0 run, capped off by junior guard Megan Perry's successful three-point play, in which she drew the foul on a layup and converted the free throw. Perry's three-point play extended the Tritons' lead to 24, their largest of the game, and made the score, 49-25, with 12:54 remaining.

In the final 10 minutes of the game, the UCSD lead never fell lower than 19. After CSUSB sophomore center Analisa Green made a layup while making the score, 53-34, with 5:58 to play, the Tritons did not allow the Coyotes to score another basket.

During the last five minutes of the contest, the Tritons added four more points to their total with Feder's free-throw line shooting, with 3:31 to go in the game, and a layup by redshirt freshman center Emily Morris, with 1:49 left in the second half.

The tone of the 40-minute contest was determined early in the first half in which the Tritons commenced the game with back-to-back 7-0 runs.

Though the game remained scoreless after more than two-and-a-half minutes, sophomore guard Miranda Seto put the Tritons ahead of the Coyotes, 2-0, by sinking both of her free throws with 17:23 to go in the first half, a lead which the Tritons maintained throughout the game.

The first 7-0 run was capped off by Feder's trey at the 15:11 mark, her first points of the game.

Although freshman guard Alexcia Mack's trey with 14:46 left in the first half ended the Tritons' run as well as the Coyotes' scoreless status, UCSD followed its opening drive with the second 7-0 run. Of those seven points, senior guard Emily Osga scored the first five by hitting a jumper, with 14:28 to go in the opening frame, before drilling a three-pointer at the 13:28 mark, giving the Tritons a 12-3 lead.

Sophomore center Dana Webster's jumper with 11:44 prior to the half closed the run for the Tritons, bringing UCSD's lead to an 11-point advantage of 14-3.

During one stretch late in the first half, Feder scored seven straight points for the Tritons. The seven-point stretch was concluded with Feder's successful three-point play to give UCSD a 25-9 lead at the 4:27 mark in the first 20 minutes.

With 50 seconds remaining before the halftime buzzer, freshman center Taylor Hirz's layup marked the last UCSD basket of the first half to make the score, 34-16. Senior guard Jaslyn Cosey of the Coyotes scored CSUSB's final first-half points on a jumper and made the score, 34-18, with 24 seconds left before the intermission.

The Coyotes (4-4, 2-2 CCAA) will journey up to Humboldt State (7-3, 3-1 CCAA) for a Thursday game, scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
