LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego fencing teams went undefeated in a four-team dual event Saturday at Main Gym on the La Jolla campus.

UCSD dominated on both the men's and women's sides, defeating Arizona State, Caltech and UC Irvine, all Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Southern California (IFCSC) members.

"Overall, I am pleased with the team's performance," said UCSD head coach Heidi Runyan. "They have been training hard all season long and we had good results today."

The women went 24-3 over Arizona State, 26-1 against Caltech and 27-0 versus UC Irvine. The Tritons did not drop a single bout in foil, posting a perfect 27-0 mark with Nicole Chiang, Amrit Khalsa, Alina Marshall and Victoria Parra competing. Natalie Chan was 9-0 in epee.

The men downed Arizona State 24-3, Caltech 25-2 and UC Irvine 24-3. UCSD went undfeated in saber with Bryson Abilay, Drew Dickinson and Travis Tibbitts competing. Keric Moore posted a 9-0 record in foil.

The Tritons, who are receiving votes in the CollegeFencing360.com national preseason poll, are back on the strips at the Northwestern Invitational, to be held Feb. 2-3 in Evanston, Ill. Other teams competing include defending NCAA national champion Ohio State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Princeton and Stanford.

Northwestern (women No. 7), Notre Dame (women No. 2, men No. 3), Ohio State (men No. 1, women No. 4), Princeton (women No. 1, men No. 4) and Stanford (men No. 10) are all ranked among the top 10 nationally.

"We have a tough challenge ahead of us going into this tournament, but our athletes are looking forward to taking it on."
