LA JOLLA, Calif. -
Senior guard Emily Osga
of the UC San Diego women's basketball team has been named the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3. The announcement was made Monday by the league.
Osga led the Tritons to decisive road victories over the weekend, including a 63-52 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday and a 68-58 victory over Cal State L.A. on Saturday.
The San Diego native started the weekend against the Toros at the Torodome, scoring 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field, including a 2-for-3 performance from three-point range. She also had six rebounds, four assists and one block.
Closing the weekend at the Eagles Nest, Osga led all scorers with a career-high 28 points against the Golden Eagles, going 6-for-9 from behind the arc as part of a 9-for-16 showing from the field. She was a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line and posted game-highs with seven rebounds and five assists.
For the weekend, Osga averaged 22 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists. In total, she made 16 of 27 (59.3%) attempts from the field, which included a remarkable 8-for-12 (66.7%) effort in three-point field goal shooting.
Osga, who is second in the conference in both field-goal percentage (51.5%) and three-point field-goal percentage (45.2%), becomes the second Triton this season to receive the award after senior guard Daisy Feder was honored for her performances against the same two teams at home during the week of Nov. 26-Dec. 2.
The Tritons, who are 13-8 overall and in second place with an 11-3 CCAA record, play host to ninth-place Humboldt State (9-11, 5-9 CCAA) on Friday in a game set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
