SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's crew team traveled north to compete in the Sacramento State Invitational on Saturday.

UCSD went up against crews from Portland, Humboldt State, Saint Mary's, Sonoma State, Mills College and Sacramento State.

The Tritons found themselves in the middle of the pack for the majority of the regatta.

"We were able to put a good race together," said UCSD head coach Colin Truex. "We were much better than two weeks ago in Long Beach."

The day was highlighted by the JV boat in the opening event as it came in ahead of both Humboldt State boats as well as Division I Saint Mary's.

The varsity eight also finished ahead of Humboldt State, the reigning Division II champions, by six seconds.

"All and all, we had a great day," said Truex. "Going into exam week and spring break, we really needed to finish this portion of our season with good racing and we did."

The Tritons head to Western Washington on Friday, March 29 to face the Vikings before taking part in the Cascade Spirits in Tacoma, Wash., on Saturday, March 30.

"We're back at it in a couple of weeks and we will see Humboldt State up at Western Washington, so we'll get to see how we've progressed over this time," said Truex.
